Connecting to a World of Value
Trinity is a community enriched by diversity.
After two years of research and benchmarking, our Board of Trustees presented the Trinity Diversity Initiative in January 2006. The Initiative not only defines diversity for the school and its importance to a Trinity education, but also outlines several objectives in recruitment and retention of diverse families and staff, curriculum and programs, and in our communication of diversity. Our goals are lofty and the implementation of the Diversity Initiative will require the assistance of every Trinity family, staff, and faculty member. The reward is simple: creative, productive, informed children who are prepared to engage the world in a meaningful manner.

Trinity purposefully includes within its community persons from varied racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds in order to provide an education that reaches well beyond the boundaries of textbooks, but teaches all of us to explore different ideas and to appreciate one another.
It is Trinity’s intention that diversity is woven seamlessly into every aspect of school life, and that its families, faculty and staff, and community partners comprise a dynamic and richly diverse educational environment. By offering programs, activities, and presentations that focus on diverse ideas and cultures, Trinity seeks to create a learning environment that nurtures a greater understanding of the commonalities and differences in the Trinity community as well as the larger global community.
Here are a few school projects and initiatives that show Trinity's approach to diversity in action:
M&M Club (Multicultural & Multi-Aware): This after-school club unites Middle School students who want to discuss and confront issues about diversity. This club grew out of a visit to the annual Prejudice Awareness Summit. Click here to read more about the Summit and Trinity's involvement in it.
SEED Program: Last summer, thanks to a generous private donation, Trinity parent Yvonne Adams and kindergarten teacher Amy Mouser attended a week-long seminar to learn how to facilitate group discussions focused around issues of diversity. The SEED (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) Project on Inclusive Curriculum is a multifaceted diversity training program that changes hearts and minds and, in turn, communities. People of Color Conference: Each year, Trinity sends a group of faculty, administrators, and Trustees to the NAIS People of Color Conference. You may click here to learn more about the conference, or click here to read an article that Middle School Head Brenda Leaks wrote after last year's conference.
Tents of Hope: Trinity's Lower School art students decorated the inside of a tent that became a part of the Tents of Hope demonstration on behalf of the people of Darfur, Sudan. Trinity shared a tent with the Austin Jewish Academy, so two different faith traditions came together to create one message of hope and solidarity with the people of Africa. Multicultural Coordinator: To ensure that Trinity remains a place that's inclusive and welcoming for all, we have created the position of Coordinator of Multicultural Programs. Click here to send an email to the Coordinator, Viji Panda.
